General Tagging

• amenity=bar, name=Heavy Seas Alehouse
• Vocabulary is defined on the wiki
• nodes, ways, and relations
• nodes: trees, benches, traffic light
• way: roads, paths
• way (closed): buildings, area of trees, administrative boundary
• relation: W&OD is a collection of ways, bus stop + node on road + pole is a relation

• For bridges, or changes in speed limit, etc. ways connec to ways

Bike Tagging

• Good bike tagging enables routing
• Roads are highway=*
• bicycle=yes for "roads with space"
• bicycle=designated for paths meant for biking
• foot=designated for paths meant for walking / running
• Way A: highway=*, cycleway=lane, "enhance the road"
• - good when the cycleway is adjacent to the road
• Or highway=cycleway, cycleway=track
• - good when the cycleway is not near a road
• Way A: highway=*, Way B: cycleway=track
• - good when the cycleway is off-road, e.g. GW Parkway
• additiona tags: surface=asphalt, one-way=yes
• sharow: cycleway=shared_lane
• foot=yes, foot=no
• user defined tag, cycleway:divider=yes
• Bicycle Tagging is very well defined
• But if it gets too confusing see what's happening in the wild
